Text Box: The Write Stuff
Text Box: Writing is a terrific way for children to express their thoughts, creativity, and uniqueness. It is also a fundamental way in which children learn to organize ideas. And learning to write well helps children to be better readers.
Here are some suggestions that engage your child in the writing process at home and tips to help you support them in their writing:
Have your child write instructions for taking care of the family pet. These will be useful as you plan your summer vacations.
Writing tip: Get organized! Provide sticky notes to help organize ideas. Suggest putting each idea or important word on a note, and lay the notes out on the table for easy rearranging. This helps with planning and organization.
Have your child write a letter or thank you note to a relative. Talk through what your child wants to say before writing begins.
Writing tip: Stay positive! Kids who are worried about spelling every word correctly will often stick to a small group of words they can spell, or may avoid writing altogether.

Keep up to date

Text Box: Presidential Volunteer Service Awards
Text Box: Did you know that Paseo Hills PTSA is a certified organization for the Presidential Volunteer Service Awards? What does this mean?
America has a long and proud tradition of volunteer service. Now more than ever, volunteers are renewing their commitment to helping other and making new connections that bring us closer together as families, as neighbors, as communities and as a Nation.
In his 2002 State of the Union address, President George W. Bush issued a challenge to all Americans to make time to help their neighbors, communities, and Nation through service. He called on each person to dedicate at least 4,000 hours – or two years – to service over the course of their lives. He created the USA Freedom Corps to help all Americans answer his call to service and help foster a culture of service, citizenship, and responsibility.
The President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation created the President’s Volunteer Service Award program as a way to thank and honor Americans who, by their demonstrated commitment and example, inspire others to engage in volunteer service.
Paseo Hills PTSA will recognize all volunteers, students and adults with honoring them with this award. Each volunteer who meets the criteria will receive an official President’s Volunteer Service Award lapel pin (one of three levels, Bronze, Silver or Gold), a personalized certificate of achievement, a congratulatory letter from the President of the United States and a letter from the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation.
More information will be sent home soon. Please contact PTSA with any questions at 623-445-4582.
